Thorin Dark Shadow Ink by cfgriffith Thorin Dark Shadow Ink by cfgriffith
I've been busy with other things for the past couple of months and haven't drawn one bit. My husband was out for the day recording a podcast and I decided to do a bit of a quick drawing for fun and to get back into it (it's always so hard for me when I get out of regular practice, no matter how badly I want to draw something -- plus, I've had so much on my mind, it's difficult to focus or pick just one thing). I wanted to do something a little dark, and decided to ink it as well.

Drawn on Strathmore drawing paper (the image would fit on an 8.5 x 11 sheet), sketched first in blue pencil, then inked with a Winsor & Newton series 7 brush (#2) using Higgins Black Magic Ink. Extra shading and details added lightly with black pencil.

And you can see the blue pencil sketch, scanned in color then changed into B&W that I posted in the comments on this FB update: www.facebook.com/CFGriffithPro…

YAY happy to see a new Thorin from you!!Love  he's so hot, when he's brooding, isn't heGiggle   this portrait look quite different form your usual works, this Thorin is kinda, yes, very much the one with all the 'experience and memories' he had before the end of BoFAClap Clap

He was a little practice for another more detailed one I'm currently working on (I'm still going to finish "Thorin with the pack goat" drawing, but this "dark" theme first, I think)... have you seen the sketch I did recently?

Here is his most recent progress:

Don't worry! I'm not finished drawing Thorin. I hope I never am. :)

oh I haven't seen this :o (Eek)  seems this one will be really epic!:happybounce:  tho I still don't think there was anything 'mad' on the Thorin's searching for Arkenstone! I really think he just needed a sign in all his self-doubts Waaaah!  And that's one of those things that I don't even want to think of-if it will be like in the book that Bilbo will give it back to him at the funeral-it doesn't make any sense-Thorin needed it when he was alive, not now...it's too late Waaaah! Waaaah! Waaaah!

It's funny -- I'm okay in my art mixing the book and the movie together (some things I acknowledge, others I don't, still others I change for one or the other). I am okay with two different versions of Thorin, book and movie, and I actually relate to both (I don't like being demanded to do something either, especially when cornered... right there with you, book-Thorin; and also suffer from mental illnesses, since I do view poor movie Thorin as having a mix of things, such as PTSD as many have discussed). I like being able to do darker visuals and moods with movie-Thorin, and I know someday I will also draw truly-book-Thorin. :)

LOLZ right, demand me to do something and you can bet I'll do total oposite just from a principle :D and I don't remember the book much but I think there was something the book Thorin said about old times in Erebor like 'even the poorest of us had enough for their needs and still plenty of time for making beautiful things just for the fun of it' which is exactly what I thing describes good times :)
